An innovative approach to the baby photography business in 2021 with Heidi Hope.  Our industry and technology may be quickly changing, but we believe these challenges are what push us to be our most creative selves!  This year we have new ideas for how to reach clients and grow your photography business that think outside-the-box.  With a focus on baby’s first year photography, our workshop takes into account our 12 years of experience running a multi-million dollar portrait studio and servicing clients around the globe.  We also talk about why we changed our model and our vision for the future of the industry.  It all takes place in our brand new 4,000 square foot natural light space: New England Photo Collective.

Topics Include:

  • Set Building and Design
  • 3 Model Sessions to build your portfolio:  Newborn, Sitter, Cakesmash
  • Calculating Pricing
  • Building a Brand
  • Innovative Marketing

NEW FOR 2021 we are offering a LIVESTREAM option for those who can't attend in person!

This Workshop is for you if:

    • You are looking to improve your technical photography, posing skills and creativity.  We'll talk about manual exposure and exactly how I achieve the light-filled, colorful images we're known for.  You'll learn set design, posing, lighting, and camera settings.  You will be able to take and use photos for your portfolio during our live sessions.
    • You are seeking the ability to turn your photography skills into a profitable business.  Business practice is the foundation of our success and longevity here, so if you want to keep doing this in the years to come, you'll find no shortage of learning the business side of things.  We'll also talk all about why we shifted our business model in 2018 and what we're doing now that we believe is the future of the industry!
    • You learn better with hands-on experiences and 1-on-1, individualized feedback on your work.  While I love teaching online for it's convenience, there is nothing like learning in person to immerse yourself in the experience with individualized feedback, real time Q&A, and seeing exactly how we do what we do!  Plus, you walk away with life-long friends.  Sorry, you can't get rid of us!
    • You are ready for your art to feel inspired and to make a greater impact.  Staying inspired is a huge part of creating art the resonates in the hearts of consumers and making your brand stand out.
    • You want to understand how to turn your love of photography into something that actually pays the bills or even supports your entire family.  Heidi Hope Photography was the sole income source of our family for 11 years.  We were even able to take 2 years off so we could pivot our business model and purchase a commercial space.  We understand the intricacies of running a photography business better than most and we want to share our methods with you.  Our goal is that you become more proficient in your work and your ability to profit from it.  Whether you have a spouse that wants to join the business, or are looking to take on an associate, or you just want to start seeing more profit from the hours you are devoting, we can help you with your business plan.
    • You want to grow, but don't know where to start.  One of my favorite things about mentoring other photographers is helping them to zero in on their unique skills while identifying the areas that need to grow and change.  During our q&a time we can talk about any challenges you are facing with your business and how to grow from there!
    • You are burnt out from the way you've been running your business and you know there must be a better way.
I understand firsthand how burnout can occur in our industry.  Marketing and reaching clients has become more complicated and is always changing.  Everything has changed and we need new solutions.  I'll share how I overcome burnout and overwhelm inherent in being an entrepreneur and innovative ways you can solve the problems of our industry.

“Heidi’s workshop was hands-down the BEST workshop I’ve ever attended. Heidi and Shaun have an answer for every business question/situation/problem you’ve ever had and are so business savvy, have a great handle on marketing, client relations, not to mention the actual photography. She just “gets” how to work with people, clients and photographers alike, and has that rare knack of being able to zero in on the trouble areas and come up with a solution.  I’m thankful that Heidi kicked my butt into shape because I actually TOPPED my best month from last year and have raised my monthly average by nearly a $1000/month. And it was the perfect timing, too, because unfortunately my husband was laid off last month, but my income is meeting all our needs, and then some. It’s crazy to think that I went from being excited about someone paying a whole hundred dollars for a CD of images to something of this magnitude, providing for our family and paying an entire mortgage. That’s just self-inspiring, if I can even put it like that.  If I could recommend only one workshop, online or in-person to attend, it would be Heidi’s.” ~ Megan

2 Day Baby Photography Workshop

It takes more than just beautiful photography for your work to be seen and your business to be successful.  While our colorful, whimsical photography is recognized around the world, it is actually our business foundation that has grown and sustained Heidi Hope Photography in an ever-changing market over the past decade. That business foundation provides us with the time and security to allow creativity and innovation to flow through all of our work.

By continuing to re-invent our business model we have been able to change our passion for photography from making a little extra grocery money on the side into a multi-million dollar business that supports our family and our employees.

The Heidi Hope 2-Day Innovate Workshop is a photography and business workshop that will help you improve your technical skills as a photographer and inspire your creativity while focusing on growing a successful baby's first year (and beyond) portrait business in a crowded marketplace.

We'll go over the foundations of Business Plans, Pricing and Branding so that you gain clarity around the direction of your business and stand out from your competition. We'll also discuss how the photography market has changed over the past 5 years and what you can do to evolve with these new technologies and ways of doing business. Each workshop ends with personalized Q&A time with Heidi so that you can get individualized help with the direction of your work from both an artistic and business standpoint.

Where should we stay? We recommend either the Nylo Hotel in Warwick RI or the Hampton Inn in Warwick RI.  Both hotels will shuttle you to and from the airport and you can usually arrange shuttles to and from our studio (please inquire with them before booking as we cannot guarantee this hotel service will be available).  We are also 15 minutes south of Providence, RI if you want to stay in the city and UBER it over to us!  Also close by:  Newport RI (40 minutes), Boston MA (about an hour), Cape Cod MA (about 90 minutes), and New York City (about 3 hours).

Can beginners attend? We recommend that you know your camera well and can operate it in comfortably in Manual Mode to get the most out of the workshop.  You do not have to be in business, nor do you need a particular business model to enjoy and benefit from the workshop… but we do talk a lot of business!

How many attendees will there be? Not more than 15.

What equipment will we need? Your camera, a 35mm lens (or 24-70mm or 50mm), and memory cards are a must! Optional:  Your laptop, other lenses (we use 35mm, 50mm, 105 macro, and occasionally 85mm and 70-200mm in studio), backup battery and charger, camera bag

How much Newborn Posing will we learn? We will spend about 4 hours of the total workshop time going over newborn posing with 2-3 babies.  You will learn our newborn posing flow that guarantees us to keep sessions under 3 hours and has helped us to train multiple associate newborn photographers at our old studio.   We will cover: Newborn Safety Swaddling Bean Bag flow Birds Eye Compositions Bucket Poses Hammock/Swing/Hanging Poses Posing for Digital Backdrops

Will we be able to take images during the demonstrations? Yes, you will have the opportunity to practice the techniques we will be covering by photographing our models at the workshop.

“From the moment you walk into the front doors of Heidi Hope’s studio you know you’re going to have an amazing experience!  Heidi and her team have prepared the most inviting atmosphere – from the cupcakes to the little gift bags, little notebooks for each attendee with matching pencils – her attention to detail and organization are incredible!  But the best part of Heidi’s workshop is the  warmth, enthusiasm and willingness to share every aspect of her business.  Heidi’s business partner and husband is ready to teach you everything you need and want to know about the business side of running your business, while Heidi focuses on teaching you everything you want from the photography aspect.  She is so creative and genuine — we had such a great time getting equal shooting time with sets that were prepared and thought out in advance.   Her team is just as willing to answer any questions you might have along the way — from photoshop to the details of shooting.   I’m not sure there wasn’t a topic that wasn’t covered –  and because of their willingness to share, you really felt you could ask anything you wanted to know about running your business, or shooting, and someone on the team would have an answer for you.  This workshop was truly one of the best I’ve been to!  It was absolutely evident that Heidi has a love for teaching and photography!  This is a must-have workshop experience!” ~Sheri, October 2013 3 Day Workshop Attendee

“A few years ago, when I first came across Heidi’s work on flickr, it inspired me. I truly mean that. She *is* the sole reason why i decided to get into newborn photography. When I saw she was hosting her first workshop, I knew I HAD to attend. I didn’t care what the cost was going to be, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to put a price on the things she was going to share. And I was right, the workshop was so much more than what I thought it was going to be. Heidi and Shaun were complete open books- i can’t stress that enough. I loved how honest and open they were about what they do, how they work, and ultimately how to be successful at this baby business. I walked away with so much more than I thought I would that day: *amazing* knowledge that has helped my work, my business and my self esteem. It also gave me an eye for how to improve my photography, and what I love most, a very dear friend who I feel privileged to have. In the current world of photography there are so many workshops to choose from, I’ve taken several, and I will say that Heidi’s is by far the best investment I have made. She’s an amazing teacher, one of the sweetest people I know and such an incredible photographer. You will never regret learning from one of the most talented photographers there is in the field today.” ~ Melissa Fogg, In-person After-the-shoot Workshop Attendee.
